Dinamo Basket Sassari, an Italian professional basketball club based in Sardinia, will create history next week when they meet Qatar’s Al Wakrah as part of an initiative to promote sporting and tourism ties.
Team, staff and managers of the team will be in Doha from February 19 to 22 for “Sardinia Days”, promoted by the President of the island’s government Francesco Pigliaru, the councillor for tourism Barbara Argiolas and the councillor for industry Maria Grazia Piras.
This unique event will bring Sardinian heritage, culture and beauty to Qatar through the medium of basketball.
Qatar Basketball Federation President Ahmad Abdulrahman al-Muftah and the Italian Basketball Federation with Gianni Petrucci embraced the idea with enthusiasm, giving their timely help and support for making it possible.
The highlight of “Sardinia Days’ will be the game with Al Wakrah basketball team, scheduled for February 20.
The enterprising project – that put together sports, business and tourism – will open a window between Sardinia and Qatar, which already share important projects. This is the first time in Europe that a basketball club plays an international game during the season with the aim of building relationships and networking outside Europe.
