Qatar has welcomed the United Nations (UN) General Assembly's adoption of the Arab-Islamic draft resolution on the protection of the Palestinian civilian population at its emergency meeting on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar's satisfaction with the adoption of the resolution by a 120-vote, which reflects the international community's awareness of the atrocities faced by unarmed Palestinian civilians and the possibility of concerted international efforts to confront human rights violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces.
The statement reiterated the firm position of Qatar and its support for the Palestinian people and their steadfastness, expressing hope that the adoption of the resolution would put an end to the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces and provide the protection needed by the Palestinian people in addition to stopping their material and moral losses.
The statement considered the resolution an important step in a series of measures that must be taken by the international community to create conditions for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative and the end of the Israeli occupation of all the occupied Arab territories.
