Shop owners at the new Gold Souq in Souq Najada are looking forward to an increase in jewellery sales by as much as 30% this coming Eid al-Adha.
Aside from the holidays, the move to relocate the Gold Souq to Souq Najada was lauded by shop managers, who said the new location is “strategic and attracts more customers”.
A recent QNA report had said the Gold Souq’s new location, which was opened recently by the Private Engineering Office, houses 50 prominent jewellery shops and boasts of an underground parking that could accommodate 250 vehicles.
Nasir Hussain, who manages the Versailles jewellery shop, said the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays pushed up sales by 25% compared to the same period last year.
In the run-up to Eid al-Adha next month, Hussain said the store is expecting jewellery sales to jump by 30%.

The souq offers customers a wide variety of jewellery to choose from.

This was reiterated by Sky Jewellery manager Rajesh Devkota, who said some stores at the Gold Souq are also launching promotions or discounts to encourage more customers to buy gold and other jewellery.
Another store manager said the Eid holidays are also a time when many expatriates go to their home countries for their annual leave. “Many bring jewellery, mostly gold, back home for personal use or as gifts to their loved ones,” he said.
On the souq’s new location, Hussain described the Gold Souq as a strategic destination for jewellery buyers. “Not only are all the shops new, but it is also very accessible now; customers who are in a hurry can be dropped off easily by their drivers because the entrances to the shops are along the roads.”
The report had also said the Gold Souq has a second floor that can be used as workshops, equipped with services and facilities that make it an attractive destination for visitors.
