The Perseid meteor shower will illuminate Qatar sky from Saturday evening until Monday dawn, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced.

“Residents of the Northern Hemisphere including Qatar will have a good chance to observe the Perseid meteor shower,” QCH astronomer expert Dr Beshir Marzouk explained.
The Perseid meteor shower is usually active every year from July 23 until August 24, while its peak will be between Saturday evening and Sunday dawn.
Experts are of the view that on an average around 100 meteors may be seen per hour.
The Perseid meteor shower can be seen with the naked eye from places without light and environment pollution (clear sky), and darker places, from midnight to dawn.
“Sky gazers just need to look to the northeast to observe the Perseid showers,” Dr Marzouk suggested.
The Perseid meteor shower is created by debris from the Swift-Tuttle Comet as the Earth passes through the dust and debris it leaves behind during last week of July until mid-August every year.
“Professional and amateur astronomers will have a good chance to observe the Perseid meteor shower this year because the Moon will be just two days old at the peak of the shower and hence will not appear in the sky at night. Moon is to set at 7.12pm Doha time,” the expert added.
