Al Hareth produced a blistering run under jockey Richard Mullen to pick up victory in the Al Wukair Cup, yesterday’s feature race, on the dirt track at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club even as trainer Ibrahim al-Malki picked up four victories in the seven-race card, and jockey Evert Pheiffer three.

Mishal bin Ali al-Attiyah-owned Al Hareth was champion trainer Jassim Ghazali’s only winner on the day.
Mullen had his ride track leader Al Mazrooah early on before he had the five-year-old bay horse surge past Tadgh O’Shea’s ride with 300m to go. Al Hareth pulled away for a five length win, with Rashid Khamis Saif al-Kuwari’s Akram and Dr Mohamed Rashid al-Ardhi al-Marri’s Al Mazrooah rounding up the top three.
Earlier, al-Malki and Pheiffer got together to race three winners together with Izghawa shedding her maiden status in the Class 6 Thoroughbred Maiden Plate event, Shaka Zulu picking up a sprint victory in the Thoroughbred Graduation Plate event, and Topsy Turvy impressing in the nine-furlong Thoroughbred Handicap event for horses rated 55-75.
Al-Malki’s fourth winner on the day was Aqdaar, ridden to victory by Cedric Segeon in the colours of Saeed Ibrahim Saeed al-Malki in the Class 2 Thoroughbred Conditions event.
Al Jasra Stud’s Derzkiy, trained by Hilal Kobeissi, was guided by Pier Convertino to win the Purebred Arabian Handicap event for horses rated 70 and below. Derzkiy finished a length ahead of Tarek Al Mels, while Lehwaila finished third.

In the first race of the day, Gaetan Faucon, riding in the colours of Umm Qarn, rode Alban de Mieulle’s charge Hijran to a narrow victory over al-Malki-trained Abeah in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate.
