The health control section at Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality conducted 7,045 inspection visits to various food facilities, in addition to 1,218 inspection campaigns on food outlets last year.
The campaign covered outlets such as cafeterias, restaurants, slaughterhouses, shopping malls, groceries, barber shops, laundries and beauty salons. The inspection tours resulted in 648 violation reports being issued regarding food health regulations.
The health inspectors destroyed 6,289kg of fish during the same period for not being fit for human consumption. Also, 369 slaughtered livestock carcasses were destroyed for the same reason.
During last year, 430 new licences were issued for compliant food facilities to start business operations, while 29 other facilities and outlets were administratively closed for various periods for violations regarding the handling of human foods.
