Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) and Oman Global Logistics Group (Asyad) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the development of logistics services, shipping and passenger ferry services.

Mwani Qatar CEO Captain Abdulla al-Khanji and Asyad CEO Abdulrahman Salim al-Hatmi signed the MoU at Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl – Doha in the presence of HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti and Oman’s Minister of Transport and Communications Dr Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Salem al-Futaisi.
The MoU aims to develop passenger ferry services between Qatar and Oman.
It also aims to develop a joint strategy to anchor cargo business to Hamad Port and Omani ports, as well as develop joint logistic services between Hamad Port and Omani seaports.
HE al-Sulaiti emphasised the “unique relations” between Qatar and Oman “thanks to the wise directives from His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and His Majesty Sultan Qaboos of Oman in service of mutual interests of the two brotherly nations”.
He said the two leaders “are very keen to develop relations in all fields”.
The Minister noted that there is also an “active and close follow-up” from HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
He said: “Co-operation continues between Qatar and Oman to create more opportunities, and the entities concerned in both countries always listen to what governmental and business organisations suggest to spot new ideas for co-operation in all fields.
“The MoU builds a close co-operation between Mwani Qatar and Asyad for developing business in marine transport and seaports between Qatar and Oman, and helps in enhancing Hamad Port’s contribution to the national economy, thus supporting the ministry’s plans toward achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.”
Capt al-Khanji said the MoU would contribute to achieving Mwani Qatar’s objectives and plans to boost its position locally and establish its presence as a leading company in the field of integrated seaport and logistic services regionally and globally.
“Mwani Qatar is keen to join strong and fruitful partnerships with various Omani companies and institutions as a gateway to develop and enhance co-operation between the two brotherly countries,” he added.
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the event, al-Hatmi said the MoU would help develop joint investments in Qatar and Oman’s logistics sectors.
“The objective of this co-operation is to maximise trade volume growth between the two countries,” he pointed out.
