Qatar will host the 12th Milipol Qatar at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) from October 29 to 31, it was announced on Tuesday.

The largest ever Milipol, aimed to strengthen homeland security and civil defence, will be hosted by the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

Milipol Qatar Committee president Brigadier Sheikh Nasser bin Fahad al-Thani said in terms of participation of the ministerial delegations, subjects' experts and companies, this year's event will be the largest ever.

Milipol was launched more than two decades ago. It is for the first time that the Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference are getting incorporated with the Milipol Qatar 2018, he explained.

The studies carried out by reputable market research agencies on the defence market have found the internal security market in the Middle East will double from the present levels in the next four to five years.

While the Middle East market is hovering around $9.6bn these days, it may exceed $19.7bn by 2022, it is felt.

The expo and conference will help project the market requirements for the sector, as many countries of the region are hoping to possess superior kinds of security solutions and technologies in coming years.

The forthcoming edition will also feature live interactive shows where the stakeholders will be able to experience the latest products and innovations in the security industry. Among others the expo will host informative presentations and case studies. A number of subject experts are expected for such sessions, informed the organisers.

The Civil Defence sector, which is a new entrant to the expo, is expected to boost the status of Milipol as a leading global platform for internal security in the Middle East. It will also help companies as well as civil defence and national security stakeholders to highlight the importance of safety and security across the world.

Brigadier Sheikh Nasser also stressed Qatar has all along been and remain a major destination for major international exhibitions and conferences, and the hosting of Milipol will manifest it much greater than ever before.

Milipol's exhibitions director Muriel Kafantaris said Milipol Qatar's goal is to bring together an elite group of experts and stakeholders to learn about the latest developments and innovations in the sector and also to establish mutually beneficial partnerships.

The registration for the event is now open. The website (www.milipolqatar.com) has been redeveloped to provide an easy-to-use experience, enhance practical features and browsing, allowing users to easily access content, and share information across key social platforms.

Milipol Qatar is a well known exhibition of internal security, co-organised by the Qatar MoI and the French company ComexPosium since 1996. Organised once in two years in Qatar, Milipol is attracting some of the major companies dealing in the public security sector around the world and their equipment and accessories will be showcased at the expo.

The Milipol brand is now represented by Milipol Paris, Milipol Qatar and recently Milipol Asia-Pacific. This is expected to contribute to the building of an international network of exhibitions dedicated to providing services, technologies and innovations in the field of homeland security.

MoI's Logistics Directorate assistant director general Brigadier Saud Rashid al-Shafi was also present at the press conference.
