The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani on Thursday participated in the Paris Conference to Combat Terrorist Financing, in the French capital, Paris.
HE Sheikh Mohamed delivered a presentation at a roundtable entitled "Combating the Financing of Terrorism More Effectively: What Are Aspects of Co-operation We Need", with the participation of a number of ministers and officials.
HE the minister highlighted Qatar's efforts in the fight against terrorism, along with other member states, to combat and drain sources of funding the ISIS (Daesh), to support and dismantle the organisation's economic structure to prevent the flow of foreign terrorist fighters and their border crossings, as well as the need for commitment of the international community to continue combating terrorism.
He stressed the need to unify the concept of terrorism internationally so as not to be politicised and employed by some governments to achieve political gains and legitimise their behaviour towards their peoples and other countries.
In this context, HE Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the importance of developing the domestic legal frameworks of countries to ensure the independence of the judiciary and not to misuse the pretext of the war on terrorism for actions that would lead to instability.
"The international co-operation has proved effective in developing mechanisms to detect the flow of illicit funds and the importance of continuing exchange of information and intelligence related to the (Daesh) organisation so as to facilitate its elimination," HE the minister said.
The minister called for intensifying regional and international efforts to fight terrorism, combat its funding and combat violent extremism, away from political manoeuvres, media propaganda and political exploitation of the technical institutions concerned with combating terrorism, money laundering, terrorism financing and violent extremism.
