Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and the Human Rights Department of Ministry of Interior (MoI) have celebrated International Workers' Day with 500 people in attendance. The event was hosted by Al Sadd Sports Club.
Youssef Abdullah al-Sada, executive director, QRCS, said, "We are here to celebrate International Workers' Day, saying thank you to our brothers who work hard. Every one of us is a worker in their own profession".
He highlighted the numerous services provided by QRCS for workers, including medical care and health education through workers' health centres, which are supervised by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
He also highlighted other nationwide projects, including the Weqaya communicable disease control campaign and 'Together for Benevolence.'
"We are committed to our capacity as auxiliary to the country in its humanitarian and social policies. To that end, we are open to partnerships with various government bodies and NGOs. Our latest success in this regard is the formation of community committees to keep in contact and take care of the expatriates living in Qatar," he added.
Lt Colonel Saad Salem al-Dosari, assistant director at the Human Rights Department, congratulated all workers in Qatar, whom he described as "active partners in the development and prosperity of this country".
"Protection of expatriate workers is an integral part of our philosophy of comprehensive security, which goes beyond the ministry's security-related procedural and technical processes to protection of the rights of children, people with special needs, penitentiary inmates, construction workers, and domestic workers. This approach is inspired by the pillars of Qatar National Vision and the national development strategy," he said.
The celebration included hosting a Southeastern Asian band performed a folkloric concert for the event's 500 public attendance. In the end, the workers received food meals and household packages that contained miscellaneous clothing and food products.
