The first day of Eid al-Fitr was celebrated in Qatar by people from all walks of life in an atmosphere of joy, piety and camaraderie.
Citizens and expatriates turned up for the early morning prayers in large numbers, which was followed by the exchange of greetings and family visits through the day.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs had prepared 362 mosques and prayer grounds across the country for the Eid al-Fitr prayer, including 69 mosques and prayer grounds with places reserved for women.
The Eid al-Fitr prayer was performed at 4.58am, 15 minutes after sunrise. Traffic patrols controlled the exit and entry points of key areas to guarantee the smooth flow of vehicles and prevent any congestion due to the rush.
After the conclusion of the prayers, people exchanged Eid greetings and wished each other peace, prosperity and joy.

A dominant theme among people of all nationalities and backgrounds was their love for Qatar, with some stressing that they were able to enjoy peace, safety and prosperity under the country's wise leadership. They expressed their solidarity and reiterated their support for the country.
Many residents visited relatives in the morning and had breakfast with them after the Eid prayers, spent some quality time together as is the custom during Eid among many communities in the country.
For most of the day and early afternoon, traffic on the roads was light as many people preferred to stay home and spend time with family. Malls and shopping centres received good crowds later in the day.
The Qatar Fan Zone at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena in Al Sadd, where the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia matches are being shown on big screen for free, witnessed a good turnout.
The Summer Entertainment City (SEC) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre is expected to be a popular destination over Eid al-Fitr holidays. The SEC, organised by QSports as part of the Qatar Summer Festival 2018, promises to be the biggest indoor entertainment facility in the country with 75 activations and different gaming options.
