Turkey on Monday said the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul was "savagely planned", vowing nothing would remain secret in a case that has severely tarnished the image of powerful Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump said he was "not satisfied" with Riyadh's explanation of how Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor, died inside the consulate.

Omer Celik, spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling party, said the killing "was planned in an extremely savage manner". It was the first official indication that Ankara believes a murder plan was co-ordinated in advance.

"We are faced with a situation where there has been a lot of effort to whitewash this," he added.

Upping the pressure on Riyadh, Erdogan has vowed to reveal the "naked truth" today about the Khashoggi case.

Asked if he believed the Saudis were telling the truth about the circumstances surrounding the 59-year-old journalist's death three weeks ago, Trump told reporters at the White House: "We will know very soon."

"I am going to know very shortly because I have a great group of people in Turkey right now and a great group of people in Saudi Arabia," Trump said. "And I am not satisfied with what I have heard."

Trump said he spoke to the Saudi crown prince, who also held a meeting with Steven Mnuchin, the US treasury secretary, on Monday.

In another development, newly leaked surveillance footage appears to show a man walking around Istanbul wearing Khashoggi's clothes after his murder.

CNN aired the footage on Monday, citing a Turkish official as describing the man as a "body double" and a member of a 15-man Saudi team sent to Istanbul to target the writer. He was identified as Mustafa al-Madani. (with input from Al Jazeera)
