Ministry holds workshop on seaport security

The training workshop on securing seaports, organised by the permanent committee for the management of sea ports in co-operation with the Police Training Institute concluded yesterday.
The five-day workshop saw the participation of a number of representatives of the State’s stakeholders from ministries, agencies and institutions, as well as participants from Kuwait and Oman.
The training workshop was conducted by experts from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO.) 
The workshop aimed to familiarise participants with the sciences relating to the security of seaports and the role of IMO in strengthening maritime security, the organisation’s decision-making processes and maritime security measures of the Organisation and to provide assistance to member-states. 
It also aimed to familiarise the participants with the SOLAS Convention and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, maritime security principles, threats and preventive measures, the functions of the company security officer, the ship security officer, maritime threats and security standards provided for in the ISPS code.
Chairman of permanent committee for the management of sea ports Brigadier Dr Abdulhadi Mohamed al-Dossari, said that the workshop, dedicated to securing seaports, was the result of co-operation between the committee and many of the parties in the country.
Al-Dossari thanked all the participants in the workshop which benefited the members of the Ministry of Interior and the other members of the permanent committee for the management of sea ports.
