Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented by the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), inaugurated the 8th electric car charging station, which was established in co-operation with Siemens Qatar at Qatar Scientific Club.
The inauguration is a continuation of the first phase of the launch of electric car charging stations in Qatar as part of the green vehicles initiative to provide a clean, healthy and safe environment for future generations.
The initiative also coincides with Tarsheed missions, which is the reduction of harmful carbon emissions by 7% across all sectors in Qatar by 2022 according to the Second National Development Strategy 2018-2022.
On the occasion of the inauguration, the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department Manager in Kahramaa, Engineer Abdulaziz al-Hammadi, said that this station is a continuation of the efforts of Kahramaa represented by the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), for the preparation of the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles in the country, where 400 stations are planned to be established in co-operation with the private sector by the end of 2022 in the context of encouraging electric and hybrid vehicles in Qatar.
Qatar Scientific Club was chosen as a youth initiative that encourages innovation and acquisition of new technologies in Qatar for the younger generation of inventors.
Managing Director of Qatar Scientific Club, Fatima al-Mohannadi, said that since the announcement by Kahramaa that it has started to install the electric vehicle charging stations in Qatar, the club worked on being one of the first to support this positive initiative, with the belief of the importance of these stations and the importance of co-operation between the various bodies in the State in order to preserve the environment because it is time to take serious practical steps to reduce emissions that lead to the aggravation of global warming, and Qatar is a pioneer in this area through the enactment of laws and legislation which are being applied with a view to making the Qatari environment a healthy environment, in line with the recommendations adopted by international organisations related to the environment.
As part of its range of shipping solutions, Siemens Qatar, the partner of this technology initiative, delivers electric charging stations that provide ease of use, safety and energy management.
Siemens Qatar will also provide training in operation and use as well as maintenance of vehicle charging stations.
Kahramaa launched seven electric vehicle charging stations in 2018 in the areas of Kahramaa Main Building, Kahramaa Awareness Park Building, Al Fardan Towers, St Regis Hotel, and Kempinski Pearl Resort.
In addition, two electric car charging stations for buses have been inaugurated at the headquarters of Mowasalat, and two electric car charging stations will be inaugurated at Qatar Foundation.
