The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has opened three new mosques with residences for the imams and the muezzins, located in the Aba Al-hiran, Librethat and Al-Seej areas.

The mosques can accommodate about 1,400 worshipers.

This comes as part of the ministry's plan to increase the number of mosques and develop them in all areas, and to keep pace with urban and population growth, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Aba Al-hiran mosque has a main hall for prayers and a total area with a capacity for 500 men and 75 women worshipers, with residences for the imams as well.

Librethat mosque can accommodate about 268 worshippers with a main prayer hall for 220 men and 48 women, and with residences for the imam and the muezzin, along other amenities.

Al Seej Area mosque has a main hall for prayers that can accommodate 500 men and an other hall for 48 women worshippers, with two residences for the imams.

A centre for memorising the Holy Qur'an is also attached to the mosque.

The three mosques include ablution areas, as well as public car parking spaces, some of which are dedicated to people with disabilities.

The Mosques Department of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is concerned with identifying the needs of the mosques in all areas in the country.

It prepares the annual plan for the maintenance of mosques and the houses of the imams in co-ordination with the competent authorities, taking into account the requirements of green and sustainable buildings, and preservation of heritage aesthetics in the mosque designs, reflecting Qatari and Islamic heritage.
