Unsettled weather and thunderstorms are expected during the weekend, with chances of rain peaking from this evening until Saturday evening, the Qatar Met department has said. Conditions are likely to become favourable for moderate to heavy rain and the thunderstorms may also be accompanied by hail in some areas, according to the weather office.
In a report on Thursday, the Met department said, “unsettled weather conditions are expected to continue affecting the country during the weekend due to the extension of a low-pressure system." There is a chance of scattered rain, which will be thundery at times and reach its peak between Friday evening and Saturday evening as conditions become favourable for moderate to heavy rain in most areas of the country.
These conditions will be accompanied by gusts of sudden strong winds, exceeding speeds of 40 knots at times, and causing rising dust and low visibility in some areas. The weather conditions are expected to stabilise gradually on Sunday morning, the report states. The Met department has urged people to take extra care, especially during thunderstorms, which may be accompanied by hail in some areas. It has also advised people to avoid going to sea and follow latest updates through its official social media accounts.
Meanwhile, Friday’s forecast says thundery rain is expected in some areas. Thundershowers are also likely in offshore areas along with strong winds and high seas. The wind speed may go up to 34 knots offshore during thundery rain and 25 knots in inshore areas, with the sea level rising to 10ft. Cloudy conditions are likely in both inshore and offshore areas, and there is a chance of scattered rain that may turn thundery at times. Blowing dust is also expected in inshore areas occasionally.
