The Visa Support Services (VSS) Department under the General Directorate of Passports, Ministry of Interior (MoI), yesterday organised a seminar in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with the aim of introducing the procedures at Qatar Visa Centre (QVC).
The seminar, which was attended by representatives of civil society, various companies and trade union organisations, was held in co-operation with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) office in Sri Lanka.
The event was attended by Major Abdullah Khalifa al-Mohannadi, director of VSS, and Mohamed Ali al-Meer, director of the Labour Inspection Department, Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA).
The officials highlighted various services being extended by the QVC to the expatriate community in Sri Lanka along with its role in protecting expatriate workers and facilitating work procedures. They explained the process of obtaining employment visas and completing the required steps through the centre.
Major al-Mohannadi said the QVC in Colombo was opened as part of the continuing efforts to help expatriates easily complete proceedings and ensure the simplification of recruitment procedures. “The QVC will protect the rights of expatriates, ensure their safety and facilitate all procedures for their entry into Qatar in a transparent manner. It will accelerate the proceedings under a simplified, smooth and effective system,” he explained.
The VSS director noted that the QVCs abroad enable the applicant to perform his/her tasks accurately through an integrated recruitment system.
On his part, al-Meer said QVC’s electronic system helps both recruiters and workers easily complete the recruitment proceedings.
The first overseas QVC was opened in October 2018 in Colombo, followed by several others in different countries. The latest opening took place in Kathmandu, Nepal, recently, taking the number of QVCs to 13 so far.
The QVCs have been set up and operated in co-operation from the MADLSA, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Public Health.
