Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) initiated the Little Hearts project, in Bangladesh targeting a total of 80 kids, with congenital heart defects who have had their hearts catheterised by physicians from Qatar, on the basis of a co-operation agreement with its Bangladeshi counterpart.
The Qatari Red Crescent Society said in a statement on Wednesday that within three days of the start of the project, which will continue until next Sunday, the medical convoy treated 43 targeted children in Bangladesh, at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Dhaka.
The statement pointed out that the convoy includes a volunteer medical team in the fields of cardiac catheterization and anesthesia of children, as well as psychological and moral support services for children, within Box of Joy, an initiative implemented by QRCS volunteers in Doha, with support from Qatar Airways.
Another contribution by the medical convoy is capacity-building, providing practical training for the local medical staff at NICVD, so that they can undertake such sophisticated procedures on their own.
"The purpose of this convoy is to treat kids who have been suffering since their birth," said Dr
Mohamed S Ibrahim, Executive Director of QRCS Relief and International Development Division and the head of mission.
"It gives hope to the parents, who are too poor to afford the cost of treatment. It is a long story of pain". For the success of this convoy, Dr Ibrahim expressed big thanks to the medical team, the benevolent donors of Qatar, the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar Airways, and BDRCS.
The medical convoys are one of the leading medical projects implemented by the Qatar Red Crescent Society with the support of donors and benefactors in Qatar, and they have worked with their brothers from patients around the world, especially those who are deprived of poverty, the need and the lack of resources for treatment and health services.
