Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality's health control section carried out a number of inspection tours during the Eid al-Adha holidays, covering all commercial and food establishments there.
Veterinarians at the municipality checked 684 slaughtered sheep and goats as well as 106 cows and buffaloes, while inspection campaigns were carried out at fish shops and markets in Al Khor to make sure that the food products on display were fit for consumption.
The campaign resulted in the destruction of 10 whole slaughtered carcasses of sheep and cows for being unfit for human consumption, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said in a statement.
In addition, the section's inspectors carried out a number of tours of groceries, restaurants and catering kitchens, which resulted in the issuance of one violation of Law No 8 of 1990 on the regulation of human food control.
Similarly, Al Sheehaniya Municipality's health control section conducted 95 inspection tours at food retailers in July to ensure that they were complying with food health and safety regulations.

Besides, a violation of Law No 8 of 1990 was detected and veterinarians there supervised the slaughtering process of 587 livestock heads at abattoirs, where one full carcass was destroyed as it was found unfit for consumption, the statement noted.
