Faleh Suwead al-Ajami won the Big Tour class during the second round of the Longines Hathab Equestrian Tour at Al Shaqab’s indoor arena yesterday.
Ajami, who won the HH The Amir’s Sword Championship 2019 earlier this year, needed only 38.15 & 41.99sec respectively to top the 130/145cm class with his horse Carport. First leg winner Mohamed Sultan al-Suwaidi finished second with his mount Happy Feet. Salmeen Sultan al-Suwaidi on Aslan 69 was third.
In the Open Class (Table A, One round against the clock, Art. 238.2.1 | 110/115cm), Salmeen Sultan al-Suwiadi, riding Guilder’s Empire of the Sun, emerged on top in 52.98secs. The dressage Level 1 and Level 2 competitions saw the seasoned Jessica Waldon (on Lusso Del Castegno), and Iris Nijboer on Amber top the scores and finish first in their respective events.
The annual equestrian series, which is in it’s third year, is organised and hosted jointly by Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) and Al Shaqab, member of Qatar Foundation. The series is spread across seven months, from October to April.
The riding disciplines include showjumping and dressage, and comprise five competition categories. Staying true to Qatar’s vision to promote sports among its youth, the categories target various age groups starting – with the Future Riders category for children aged 6 and above, up to the Senior (big tour) group, for individuals 21 and older. The competition is open to Qataris and residents of Qatar, and a total of QR1.5 million is awarded in prize money.
