A series of traditional Chinese performances and activities took centre stage Sunday at various malls in the country to mark the Chinese New Year, enthralling a large number of shoppers and visitors. The shows and activations form part of Shop Qatar’s 2020 edition, organised by Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) in collaboration with several partners, aimed at promoting the country as an international travel destination with diverse offerings and products across retail, entertainment and culture.

Doha Festival City (DHFC) was the first to host a dragon parade on Saturday followed by Mall of Qatar (MoQ) Sunday, entertaining mall-goers who are spending the day with their families and friends.
“We are always excited to bring something to celebrate every occasion and the cultures and diversity of the people in Doha. The parade was fantastic and everyone loved the dragon show. We look forward to welcoming everyone for more activities during the upcoming month," said DHFC general manager Robert Hall.
According to MoQ, it is honoured to host such kind of performances and activations in this edition of Shop Qatar, attracting many visitors and making the country a favourite tourism destination.
MoQ also opened its Chinese Cultural Hub at its Luxury Court on Friday as part of the festivity, featuring Chinese calligraphy, photo booth, face painting, and ribbon dancers. It is open from 10am to 10pm and runs until January 31. Other Shop Qatar venues such as The Pearl-Qatar also featured Chinese calligraphy Sunday and will go to Villaggio on January 27 and 28 and to Lagoona Mall on January 29 and 30.
Meanwhile, the dragon parade will also be staged at Al Khor Mall on January 30 (between 5pm and 7.40pm), besides the Chinese Drummers (6pm) on January 31. “It is admirable that the Qatar National Tourism Council is celebrating Chinese New Year as part of Shop Qatar 2020. This is a testament to the efforts of QNTC in making Shop Qatar a truly inclusive festival for visitors around the globe,” Al Khor Mall said in a statement.
Apart from the festivity, the mall added that it is also holding workshops for children called Kid’s Zone, which allows children to explore their imagination, and create craft works using everyday items like paper plates, wooden spoons, among others. Other malls such as Lagoona, City Center Doha, Gulf, Landmark, Villaggio, Hyatt Plaza (Chinese Drummers) and Al Mirqab, as well as The Pearl-Qatar, will also be hosting dragon parades and other performances and activities from Monday and until January 31.
A Chinese fashion show, featuring Chinese designers Lan Yu and Grace Chen, including solo musician and dragon parade, is set to take place at Al Hazm Mall on January 29 from 6pm to 8.30pm.
