Doha and other parts of the country experienced rain, thunderstorms and strong winds on Wednesday, with reports of hail falling in some places also coming in.

While there is no warning for rain on Thursday in inshore areas. The Qatar Met department has said thundershowers are expected in offshore areas on Thursday along with strong winds and high seas at first.

According to an update by the Met department around 8pm on Wednesday, the highest rainfall recorded until then was 5.1mm in Umm Bab. The chances of scattered thundery rain were expected to continue at night, and maybe accompanied by strong winds and hail at times. "Please be careful and avoid all marine activities," it tweeted.

Another post said most regions of the country witnessed scattered thunderstorms and some places also experienced hail.

The Met department also said the thunderstorms that affected Doha later moved eastward offshore, while there was continued scattered thundery rain along the southeastern coastal areas.

The weather office as well as the Ministry of Interior urged motorists to exercise caution in view of the rains.

Meanwhile, Thursday's forecast says moderate temperature is expected during the day along with scattered clouds. There is a chance of light rain in some places. The wind speed may go up to 25 knots both inshore and offshore, with the sea level rising to 8ft at first during thundery rain.
