The Ministry of Municipality and Environment's (MME) Public Gardens Department has intensified its campaigns to disinfect and sanitise the animal areas at Al Khor Family Park as part of the ongoing preventive and precautionary to prevent any potential spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) infections.
Mohamed al-Khayareen, general supervisor of animal care at the park, told local Arabic daily Arrayah that though the disinfection and sanitisation operations of the enclosures of the animals are regularly done, they were doubled from twice a week to four times in the light of the Covid-19 outbreak across the world.

The objective is to further enhance the protection of both the animals and the workers who take care of them at the park. He stressed that the precautionary measures were tightened in particular after the announcement of the US authorities about the infection of a tiger with Covid-19 at a zoo in New York.
Al Khayareen pointed out that all the workers at the park strictly abide by the precautionary and protective measures when dealing with the animals. Before entering the park, the body temperature of each worker is checked. Subsequently, everyone changes into protective clothes, gloves and face masks, in addition to being fully sanitised before being allowed to start his duty and given access to the animals.
Protective clothes are to be worn especially at the areas of the animal enclosures to maintain a fully sanitised environment for both the animals and workers. The number of workers at the park was also reduced to maintain safe physical distancing among them while at work.
Mohamed Ali al-Khori, director of the MME Public Gardens Department, said that all the facilities and parts of the 98 public gardens and parks around the country have been effectively sanitised, in addition to Al Qutaifyah complex which included 24 gardens.
The sanitisation works are being regularly done at all public parks and gardens including the kids play areas, seats, fences, toilets and all the service areas, he added.
