The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced on Thursday the registration of 845 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, and the recovery of 129 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 1,372, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Most of the new cases are among migrant workers from different regions who have been infected with the virus as a result of contact with individuals who were previously diagnosed, the MoPH said in a statement.

The other new cases of Covid-19 are among citizens and residents who have contracted the virus from family members, who in turn have been infected through their workplaces or other places.

All the new cases have been quarantined where they are receiving the necessary medical care.

The MoPH stated that the noticeable increase and decrease in the number of confirmed new cases is due to several reasons, including that the spread of the virus has entered its peak where the numbers are expected to continue to rise before they begin to gradually decline.

The Ministry has also intensified its efforts in tracking coronavirus transmission chains and expanded the search for infected people by conducting extensive and proactive tests of contacts of those people who have been infected with the disease previously.

The MoPH stressed that many Covid-19 cases do not show symptoms and the presence of the virus is discovered due to the early and proactive tests conducted by the Ministry's specialised teams, especially among individuals who have come into contact with those with confirmed infection.

Also, a large percentage of the recorded cases experience mild symptoms and do not require any medical intervention, but are quarantined and given access to medical care and support.

According to a tweet from the MoPH, 3,085 people were tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of people tested so far is 94,500.

There are 13,409 positive cases in Qatar and 12,027 currently undergoing treatment. The death toll due to Covid-19 deaths is 10, according to the tweet.

The MoPH called on all members of the society to stay at home and to go out only in cases of necessity and to implement preventive measures and maintain physical distancing, including in the workplace and public places. The Ministry reminded people to use face masks and avoid social visits to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.

The MoPH also urged the public to visit its website regularly to view the latest information and instructions related to Covid-19.
