The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) announced on Thursday the registration of 918 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), as well as 216 new recovered cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in Qatar to 2,286.
The Ministry explained that most of the new cases are expatriate workers who got infected as a result of contact with individuals who were previously infected, in addition to new cases among groups of workers from different regions, diagnosed during investigative examinations by the MoPH's research and investigation teams, which contributed to the early detection.
The other infected cases are citizens and residents who have contracted the virus from members of their families, who in turn had contracted the virus at their workplaces or other places.
All the new infected cases have been quarantined where they are receiving the necessary medical care.
The MoPH noted that the current period will see a fluctuation in the number of cases of infection due to several reasons, including that the outbreak of the virus is in the peak stage before the number of infections begins to descend gradually.
Also, the Ministry has recently stepped up efforts to track the transitional chains of the virus and expand the search for people infected by conducting extensive and proactive investigations of large numbers of contacts of people who have recently been infected with the virus.
According to a tweet from the MoPH, with a total of 3,532 people tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, as many as 116,495 have been tested so far in Qatar.
There are 18,890 positive cases to date in Qatar and 16,592 currently undergoing treatment. The total number of Covid-19 deaths so far in Qatar is 12, according to the tweet.
The MoPH called on all members of society to stay at home and not go out except in cases of necessity and to implement preventive measures and maintain physical distancing, including in the workplace and public places.
The Ministry reminded people to use a face mask as recommended and avoid social visits to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.
