A cargo plane carrying urgent medical assistance from Qatar arrived in Belarus on Thursday.
The medical aid has been provided by Qatar in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to support of the efforts of the friendly Republic of Belarus to cope with the Covid-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The shipment, provided through Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), weighed 7 tonnes and contained medical equipment and supplies. It was delivered by Qatar Airways.
The medical aid shipment was received by Belarus's Deputy Minister of Health Boris Androsyuk; director of the Department of Africa and the Middle East at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Koltsov; head of the National Centre for Medical Response Edward Falchuk; Acting charge d'affaires at the embassy of Qatar in Belarus Meshal bin Ali al-Attiyah; and first secretary at the embassy Abdulaziz bin Saad al-Kuwari.
On this occasion, al-Attiyah said Belarus is a friendly country and it is very natural for Qatar to extend support in such difficult times that the whole world is going through in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier, QFFD director-general Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari had said the medical assistance reflects the great efforts made by Qatar to combat the spread of Covid-19, which represents a common threat to the whole world. Qatar has provided, through QFFD, urgent medical assistance to more than 22 countries since the pandemic started, QNA added.
