A team from the District Cooling Services Department of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) visited Al Janoub Stadium as part of the regular inspections carried out by the corporation.
The team was led by Abdul Aziz al-Hammadi, director of the District Cooling Services Department, who was accompanied by a number of engineers from the department.
The visit was aimed at following up and monitoring the functioning of the district cooling plant at the stadium as part of Kahramaa’s efforts to regulate district cooling services in the country, the corporation said in an official press statement yesterday.
The stadium uses district cooling technology and has a central cooling plant. The cooling capacity of the plant is 20,000 tonnes and it uses technologies that combine the use of chilled water with air treatment through heat exchangers, to cool the stadium and surrounding areas, the statement explained.
It is considered one of the most efficient, environment-friendly and energy-saving systems, as it helps save about 40% of electricity consumption and 98% of water consumption compared to conventional cooling solutions, the statement added.
This supports the efforts made to ensure the sustainability of water resources. Kahramaa works to enhance water security in the country by switching to the use of treated wastewater instead of potable water in all district cooling plants, taking advantage of the best sustainable system in the region.
The cooling plant is equipped with the latest equipment and intelligent monitoring and control systems that provide the highest levels of energy performance through the use of treated water for cooling.
Kahramaa's District Cooling Services Department was established in 2012 as a regulator for district cooling services in the country within the framework of developing and organising cooling services across Qatar, in order to provide services that contribute to enhancing energy and water sustainability.
