The Chief Strategy and Development Office at Qatar University (QU) organised a ceremony in recognition for the efforts of the university units in obtaining ISO certificates by achieving institutional excellence through the pursuit of quality management.
QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham, directors of university units and a number of university employees were present.
The following units at QU obtained the certification of internationally recognised ISO 9001:2015 standard, which is concerned with determining the requirements of a Quality Management System (QMS). They are Chief Strategy and Development Office, Social and Economic Survey Research Institute, Research Support Department (Grants and Contracts), and Student Learning Support Centre.
The QMS enables QU offices, departments, divisions and centres in setting up and improving internal operations. This system follows a methodology that helps the administration to make informed decisions and enables it to provide high-quality services. A well-established QMS can save time, money, resources and also reduce the number of errors and improve operational performance.
The Facilities Call Centre of Facilities and General Services Department has also obtained the certification of ISO 18295-1:2017 standard, which is an international quality standard dedicated to the call centre industry reflecting the organisation’s commitment to professionalism and continuous improvement of the quality of customer service.
Dr al-Derham appreciated the co-operation he receives from all stakeholders in matters of continuous improvement and stated that QU has set institutional excellence as a strategic goal for the transformation initiatives.
"This can be achieved through the modernisation of the governance system, which will work based on quality standards and operational effectiveness frameworks. I congratulate Dr Khalid al-Khanji, Chief Strategy and Development officer, and Dr Darwish al-Emadi, the previous representative of the office; Dr Kaltham al-Ghanim, director of Social and Economic Survey Research Institute, and Dr Hassan al-Sayed, the previous representative of the Institute; Dr Mohamed al-Salem, director of Research Support Department (Grants and Contracts); Dr Yasser Hussein, director of Student Learning Support Centre, for obtaining the certification of ISO 9001:2015 standard. I also congratulate engineer Mai Fetais, director of Facilities and General Services Department for obtaining the certification for Facilities Call Centre in ISO 18295-1:2017 standard.”
Dr al-Khanji explained that the adoption of ISO certification standards reflects the university’s interest in assisting its departments and centres to the highest degree of professionalism in performing their duties and providing their services, and it is expected that a larger group of departments and centres will obtain similar certificates in the coming period.
