The European Drive-In Film Festival, a drive-in cinema experience, will take place from November 26 to 28 in the newly opened car park at Doha Festival City, according to a statement.

Nine foreign language films from nine countries are to be screened. The films, with English subtitles, were chosen specifically by the embassies of Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Entry is free, on a first come first serve basis. All guests should turn their car engines off to ensure an eco-friendly event. Open to all residents and citizens of Qatar, the festival will provide a safe cinematic experience as all precautionary health and safety measures will be adhered to including social distancing.

Each day will host three screenings. The first movie, a Swedish film ‘The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared’ on November 26 at 5pm, will open the festival for invited guests. Registration will start 30 minutes before each screening.

Guests can bring their own snacks to enjoy during the movie and can also order from food and beverage outlets from Doha Festival City. The orders will be delivered to guests in their cars by E-butler. Nestle, the event’s platinum sponsor, will also be providing snacks and surprises movie goers.

Tickets can be ordered online on starting November 15 onwards. “We are excited to see this idea of a cultural community experience being able to take place despite the pandemic that affects all our lives,” Swedish ambassador Anders Bengtcén said while announcing the event.

Doha Festival City general manager Robert Hall said the European Cinema Festival will open new and exciting cultural horizons to Doha residents.

Ambassadors Edgar Doerig (Switzerland), Alessandro Prunas (Italy), embassy representatives Ilyaas Sherally (The Netherlands), Maria al-Omari (Austria), Diana Wiese (Germany), Alexandra Esteves (Portugal), Vera Razay (Belgium) and Doha Festival City marketing manager Hisham Elzubeir, and Nestle's channel category sales development manager Adam ElMalla were also present at the announcement.
