So we’re here, the eve of 2021. To say the least, 2020 has been an unforgettable year full of historic changes and challenges, but if you’re reading this then that means you survived. Despite the many obstacles that you probably came across this winding path toward a great unknown, you’re still here — and that’s definitely worth celebrating.
To round off the year and keep in theme with my last few columns where I talked about my end of year rituals and practices, here is one I will definitely be doing this year.
Everything is about intention for me, so for the intention of letting 2020 go, I find myself letting go in mind through meditation, letting go in the body through asanas (yogic postures), and letting go in spirit through feeling my feelings and also writing. I use writing as a powerful method of transmuting energy, so I’ll typically find myself writing on paper all that I’d like to release, shed, and purge. I write freely, without thinking or judging myself. Then I’d take those pages and rip them up or burn them. After this releasing exercise, I like to intentionally fill this newly found space with whatever I’m being called to bring more of in — this tends to be the same most years, either more gratitude, appreciation, compassion and love in my life.
Tonight I am looking forward to gathering with family and friends for our annual New Year’s Eve picnic, we will be asking each other reflective questions, we’ll be writing out our 2021 goals and most importantly we’ll be sharing love, laughter and yummy food.
Whatever you are doing this evening and whomever you are with, I hope you have a memorable evening and a wonderful start to the New Year.
